The Louth Mavericks officially secured their place in the Shamrock Bowl playoffs with an emphatic 52-0 victory over the Craigavon Cowboys, improving to 6-1 on the season and continuing their outstanding first campaign in the premier division.
Led by quarterback and head coach Ty Henry, the Mavericks produced a clinical offensive performance while the defence delivered another shutout display
The Mavericks wasted little time setting the tone in the opening quarter. Fin O’Donovan opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown before Oisin Finn caught the 2pt conversion for an 8-0 lead. The offence continued to roll as Oisin Finn hauled in a touchdown reception, with Alan Minto converting to make it 16-0.
Fin O’Donovan then added his second touchdown of the quarter on a pass from Ty Henry, and another successful conversion from Alan Minto extended the advantage to 24-0 before the end of the first.
The second quarter saw more of the same dominance from the Mavericks. Alan Minto powered into the end zone on the first of 3 receiving touchdowns, with Oisin Finn adding the 2 extra points. Finn O’Donovan completed a standout first half by scoring again on the ground before converting his own touchdown to push the lead to 40-0.
Minto added his second touchdown of the game just before halftime, sending the Mavericks into the break with a commanding 46-0 lead.
After the interval, the Mavericks maintained control of the contest. Minto capped off an impressive individual performance with his third touchdown of the afternoon early in the third quarter, bringing the score to 52-0.
While the offence filled the scoreboard, the Mavericks defence was equally impressive, consistently shutting down the Cowboys’ attack and preserving the team’s latest shutout victory. Strong performances across all three phases of the game ensured the Mavericks remained in complete control from the opening drive to the final whistle.
With the win, the Mavericks move to 6-1 on the season and officially clinch their place in the Shamrock Bowl playoffs. As the postseason approaches, the team continues to build momentum and establish itself as one of the league’s most dangerous contenders.
